Almost Got Away With It

Hebrews 4:13
And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

The media reports each year with the telling of top "Dumbest Criminals" that include headlines like, "Man attempting to rob bank, gets convinced to takes out loan instead" and "Man tried to rob store with a game remote" or "Moron logs on to Facebook while robbing Internet Café"

The headlines alone are enough to warrant a good and hearty guffaw. But the deeds, though deemed to be the "dumbest" does not make the deed any less evil. More clever and studious criminals are hard at work to evade arrest, and carry out their evil plots. Many have been captured due to highly developed and trained law enforcement and investigative personnel. Some have seemed to have gotten away, and gotten away with their deeds. Sort of...

Yet, in spite of all the attempts to thwart arrest, these criminals, smart or dumb, are seen by the eyes of God. This can be also said of the same of you and I when we sin. Our first instinct when we sin is to ignore the fact the God sees what we are doing. We often misjudge the all knowing, all seeing God, or we try to hide our acts and cover them up with our "goodness" believing that God will not uncover our dirty deeds and expose our sins.

Numbers 32:23 - But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the Lord, and be sure your sin will find you out.

But the Bible tells a different story about our sin. It says that we cannot hide our sin and disobedience from Him. His eyes are everywhere and sees all that we do, hears all that we say, and knows all that we think.

Jeremiah 16:17 says, “For My eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from My face, nor is their iniquity hidden from My eyes.”

Just because you commit a sin and don't get caught right away, doesn't mean for a second you got away with it. Sooner or later, even if your heart ignores it, or God exposes it, you are going to have to answer up for it. If you are born again, the Holy Spirit will convict you and break your heart to repentance.

Dumb criminals are dumb because they have not thought their deeds through. Them and smart ones do not weigh the gravity of their deeds, because they are driven to do evil. As a child of God, you have been delivered from that kind of life through the purifying blood of Christ shed for the forgiveness of your sins. Don't ever take that for granted. It is a precious and life-saving gift.

We all sin and fall short of the glory of God. But because of Jesus, we don't have to stay that way!
