Foundational Faith

1 Corinthians 3:9-11
For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building. 10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. 11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

In order to build a structure, like a house, so it may stand for years and years, it must be built upon a strong and firm foundation. For if the house is framed and set upon just earth without the support of a foundation, it is sure to fall. And it it won't take much. The slightest movement of the earth beneath, or a strong wind could easily topple the structure and turn it into twigs.

Homes and buildings in California are built implementing higher code standards for support and strength more than other states, because of tremors and earthquakes known to happen with great frequencies in that part fo the U.S.

I believe in these times, we are faced with many things that draw the object of faith towards the distractions and misinformation this world brings us. We are constantly bombarded with edicts and demands and executive fiat that compels us to put our trust in things other than God.

I also believe that the more we build our faith on secular foundations, the greater risk we have of becoming victims of our device - and great will be our fall. But, if we listen to the Lord and place our complete trust in Him, who is not only the object of our faith, but the foundation of our faith, we will be able to stand against anything this world throws at us.

Jesus said it best in Matthew 7:24:

“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock."

As we look to our faith, we also must consider the foundation of which it is laid upon. Is the foundation of your faith in the world, or in Christ Jesus?

In Christ,

Pastor Tom
