Micah 6:8
He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
With all that is going on socially, politically, and spiritually in this tiny blue orb spinning in the galaxy, there is a sense that people of earth are more concerned with walking in their pride than walking humbly before a sovereign God. The very God who created everything including the universe. The One who gave you and I a precious gift that would save ourselves from the torment and destruction of eternal damnation in Hell that our sins deserve.
This precious and dear gift of God came in the form of man, conceived by the Holy Spirit, wrapped in human flesh, born of a virgin and walked upon earth, dwelling with His creation for 33 years. Then He was put to death because of those who rejected God's Messiah. Unbeknownst to them, this was God's plan all along.
God's greatest gift was in the form of His grace and mercy by offering His only Son to die on a Roman cross so we would be forgiven of all our sin. And then God, by the power of the Holy Spirit, raised Him from the grave 3 days later, so those who would believe will be given everlasting life.
In return, we are entrusted by faith to live a righteous and holy life - not one of self-centeredness, pride, and rebellion. Yet, as we live in a fallen world that is doomed for destruction by the hand of God, this world is full of people who think they are going to heaven (if they believe in heaven at all!) because they believe they are good people.
Well I hate to burst your pride bubble, but that's not what the bible says about us. From the beginning of time, in the creation, man has been subjected to sin. It is sin that causes the heart to grow prideful and conceited.
Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?
Proverbs 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.
It is sin that convinces man that he doesn't need a savior, and his good deeds are good enough. If that was true, there would be no need for hell or judgment, or a Savior.
Psalm 14:3 They have all turned aside, They have together become corrupt; There is none who does good, No, not one.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Once we learn to walk humbly before God Almighty, and let Jesus be the Lord of our lives, we can live a righteous life in a desperate and fallen world. It is only by the love of God, through the life, death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus, that we can even try to comprehend this great mystery.
