What it Means to be Truly Healed

1 Peter 2:24
who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.

Let's face facts, we are all subject to sickness, injury, and disease, that may even lead unto our death. For we all have been born into flesh, we are also born unto death by an expiration date that God has already determined.

The problem is we often run when those times of sickness comes, especially if the news says we are terminal. It's a matter time in most cases. Some may subcomb to the disease or sickness almost immediately. Some may linger a while. Some may be cured altogether. Only God knows.

When we run in fear, we run to a place in hope of finding healing. We go to the doctor, we may go to the priest or pastor, we may seek out others to help us and heal us. But this will lead us into a false sense of healing. For some, this means coming under the power and influences of false healers.

Another sad fact is, that we tend to go along with the notion that our sufferings are because of our lack of faith, and God cannot heal us if our faith is weak. HORSE PUCKY!

I've been told that my wife's pain was not healed because she has a demon or her faith isn't strong enough! Well, my friends, let me assure that neither is true. My wife has demonstrated faith in her suffering more than I could ever hope to have for myself. We acted out of obedience to seek the prayers of the elders, and the faithful. But when the prayers failed to bring about the desired results, she was accused of having too little faith or some demonic spirit preventing her healing. Again, HORSE PUCKY!

For the past nearly 20 years, my wife has endured the daily agony of chronic pain, to the point of countless sleepless nights, constant emotional stress and crying, soaking her pillow at night in tears. Up until a couple of months ago, she resided in her mind, she was never going to be healed and gave up seeking any further medical treatment.

But God, in His infinite wisdom. love and compassion, brought my wife out of the darkness of her suffering and led her to a compassionate doctor who actually listened to her, and prescribed her medication that has finally brought her relief. Since she's been on the new meds, she has slept through the night and pain has been remarkably less.

She still deals with some pain. But not at the level it was before. Is she truly healed? I would have to say no. And I say no, only to explain it in terms of what true healing really means...

And it means this, that Christ suffered and endured the cross for our sins. The sins we carried are like an incurable form of cancer that will kill us. Those sins were levied upon Jesus at the cross. He is the only One who can cure us and save us from death - eternal separation from God. This why the Prophet Isaiah and the Apostle Peter say, "by His stripes we are healed." This folks, is what it means to be truly healed.

Be aware fo those who want to blame your condition on a lack of faith, or promise you God will heal you because of some declaration or decree they pray over you with. True healing will not come to us while we are in this fleshly state, but in the next life to come:

Revelation 21:4 "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

When sicknesses and sufferings come upon us, do not run in fear. Instead, we are to seek God and His righteousness first, and all these things will be added to you. - Matthew 6:33

Your servant in Christ,

Pastor Tom
